The purpose of this call is to invite an artist to depict in metal, two horses that are integral to the Grand Junction Fire Department. Sam and Jack, as they were affectionately referred to, pulled the Hook and Ladder Company wagon, and lived in the Department building around 1902. Upon hearing the fire alarm, the horses would place themselves into the harness of the wagon, ready to go. These horses are part of the history of the Grand Junction Fire Department and knowing who they are is part of the training protocol for all new trainees. It is important to the department to create artwork with meaning to the entire department, and this project defines that meaning.
