Creative Center of Greeley Art Floor

The Greeley Creative District (“District”) is renovating and repurposing a historic building to create a space for creatives to meet, work, teach, sell artwork and network. This space will also become the District’s headquarters.

In the “Gathering Area” space set aside for informal seating, the District is seeking an artist to create a floor mural with original art.

Description of the art installation, space & District Objectives

The Creative Center of Greeley located at 702 13th St, Greeley CO

Objectives/Theme:

The District seeks to provide an enlivened and welcoming space that reflects the District’s commitment to the arts and creativity. Incorporating an art element into the functional aspect of the renovation offers an opportunity to convey the character of that collaborative “Gathering Area.”

The proposed artwork should be designed and installed in a way that will complement and not compete with rotating visual art that will also be displayed in this gallery area. With tables and chairs atop the floor space the theme should be easily viewed and interpreted between the furniture.

Designs may be representational or abstract but must be appropriate to the location and reflect the values and mission of the District. Diverse floor mural themes are welcome but must be appropriate for a broad community audience of all ages and backgrounds. The design must be image-based (not word-based) and cannot include logos, copyrighted or trademarked images or be a form of signage or advertisement in any way.

Size/Configuration of Art Installation Area:

Renovations are underway at the District’s Creative Center

The floor art area is approximately 230 square feet in size and 8’6” by 27’ in configuration. The artwork should be designed to fit within that space.

Location Within Building:

The floor plans above illustrate the location of the proposed floor mural artwork (orange rectangular space labeled “Gathering Area” outlined with a dashed-line).

Features of the Space:

This space is adjacent to and can be viewed from the entry lobby, retail store and is a corridor to access classroom and workshop space. In addition to traditional room lighting the space enjoys natural light from three skylights.

Floor Composition, Media, Preparation & Installation :

The floor surface will be prepared for the artwork installation by the District’s contractor. The artwork will be applied to lightly ground/polished concrete. Depending on the placement of the art it may include both existing and newly poured concrete.

The artwork must be applied with a stain recommended for concrete artwork. Suggested products include the following (artist may suggest comparable alternates):

  • Lithochrome Chemstain

  • Bomanite Concrete Dye

Acid based products shall be neutralized and rinsed by the artist.

Once installed and accepted by the District, the contractor will seal the floor to protect the artwork and make it suitable for access and use by patrons. The sealant/hardener will be Prosoco, Consolideck LS.

Budget & Limitations:

The District will compensate the artist $1,000.00 for the purchase and installation of the approved design, which includes the cost of stain and all materials. No other out of pocket costs, such as travel, will be compensated by the District.

The District is interested in original artwork for this space and will credit the artist at the site and on the organizational website. The artist shall not sell reproductions of any part of the design to any entity located within one hundred (100) miles of the District’s property. Once accepted and installed, the District retains all rights to the final design and construction to the extent allowed by law and may have incidental use of the image in advertising or other photographic representation without additional compensation to the artist. If repairs are required it is the purview of the District to determine how best to accomplish such work, as well as to remove, cover or alter the work, without notice or reservation.

Time Frame for installation:

The artist has up to one week (5 days) to install the artwork as approved. The installation on site is reserved for November 3-7, 2025. The building may be available for the artwork installation during other times when the contractor is present or by special arrangement.
