Wardell Gallery Call for Artists: "3x3: A Micro Art Festival"

SHare Your TIny Art

The Greeley Creative Arts Center invites artists to submit proposals for 3x3: A Micro Art Festival. The exhibition will be on view throughout July at the Greeley Creative Arts Center, 702 13th Street, Greeley, Colorado.

The exhibition culminates in a silent auction fundraiser on July 25 benefiting the Greeley Creative District, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to supporting arts and culture in our community. Proceeds from artwork sales directly support future exhibitions, public programs, and creative opportunities throughout Greeley.

About the Exhibition

3x3: A Micro Art Festival celebrates the power of small-scale work and big creative ideas. This exhibition invites artists to create original artworks contained within 3x3x3 inches — intimate pieces designed to fit in the palm of a hand while carrying the impact and craftsmanship of larger works.

Whether whimsical, refined, experimental, or deeply personal, 3x3 celebrates accessibility, collectibility, and the idea that meaningful art does not require monumental scale. Working within a shared size challenges artists to rethink material, detail, and storytelling in inventive ways.

All submissions must fit within 3x3x3 inches, roughly the size of a Rubik’s Cube. Media may include painting, ceramics, fiber art, metalwork, jewelry, photography, sculpture, mixed media, and more. Artists are encouraged to explore what “micro art” can be, from tiny landscapes and miniature vessels to wearable work and small-scale experiments of all kinds.

Eligibility

Exhibition proposals may be submitted by anyone in the general public. There is no fee to apply.

By submitting to 3x3: A Micro Art Festival, artists agree to make accepted artwork available for sale through the July 25 silent auction fundraiser. (Find more information under “Sales.”)

Gallery Information

The Roy T. Wardell Art Gallery hosts 8-12 exhibitions annually and is located within the Greeley Creative Arts Center. Free public gallery hours are Thursday-Sunday, noon-6 p.m., and First Fridays from 5-7:30 p.m.

Exhibition Selection Process

Wardell Gallery proposals are reviewed by a Greeley Creative District selection committee based on the following criteria:

  • Artistic excellence, originality, and technical proficiency

  • Strength and clarity of concept

  • Appropriateness of scale, material, and form for the space

  • Alignment with Greeley Creative District community values

  • Safety considerations for audience and venue

  • Artist’s educational and professional background

  • Relevance to the Center’s mission and the Greeley Creative District

  • Engagement with intended audiences

Artist Responsibilities

Selected artists are responsible for transportation, installation, and deinstallation of their work, under the supervision of gallery staff. Artists may also be invited to participate in receptions, artist talks, workshops, or demonstrations. All unsold artwork must be removed at the agreed-upon time; the gallery is not responsible for work left beyond that period.

Sales

The 3x3 festival is a fundraiser for the Greeley Creative District, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

As such, the GCD will apply an 80% commission to all artwork sold during the 3x3 auction. Payments will be issued within 30 days following the close of the exhibit.

Following the exhibit, artists are invited — but not required — to donate their remaining pieces to be used by the GCD or sold in the GCAC store.
